Enrolment for students with international protection and asylum seekers

Asylum seekers

You are considered an asylum seeker if you submitted your application for international protection and you are still waiting for a response by the competent authorities.

What can I apply for

If you submitted your application to obtain international protection, but you have not obtained it yet and you hold a temporary residence permit for asylum seeking, for the academic year 2022-2023 you can enroll in single courses for a maximum of 30 credits per year and be exempt from the payment of the required fees. You will be required to pay only the virtual duty stamp of 16 euro.

How and when to apply for enrolment in single courses

If you hold a foreign qualification, please send a copy of your study documents and of your residence permit to [email protected].

 

If they are suitable for enrolment, you’ll receive further information on enrolment procedures. After passing the final exam, you will obtain a certificate proving the obtained credits. This certificate may be used to obtain a recognition of the credits in case of a subsequent enrollment in a full degree program offered by University of Turin.

If you hold an Italian qualification, please follow the instructions published on Enrolment on single courses webpage and contact the competent students’ registry office. Remember to send them a copy of your residence permit to be exempt from the payment of the fees.

Refugees

You are considered a refugee or a holder of subsidiary protection if you obtained a positive response on your status and the related residence permit by the competent authorities.

What can I apply for

If you have been recognized the international protection and you are interested in enrolling at the University of Turin you can:

  • complete the enrolment in a degree program if:
    • you have been granted the international protection/subsidiary protection status following the interview with the competent board (Commissione Territoriale) and you hold a valid residence permit for international protection
    • you hold a foreign study qualification that allows you to enrol at an Italian university
  • enrol in single courses for the a.y. 2022-2023 for a maximum of 30 credits per year and be exempt from the payment of the required fees. You will be required to pay only the virtual duty stamp of 16 euro.
    Send your foreign study documents and a copy of your residence permit to [email protected].
    Further information will follow directly from the International Students Office.

If you hold an Italian qualification, check Enrolment procedure webpage and, for further information, please contact the students’ registry office competent for the degree program/single courses of your interest.

 

Please, remind that if you are a refugee or you hold subsidiary protection you are exempt from the payment of the tuition fees for the enrolment in a degree program (bachelor’s or master’s), regardless of the type of qualification - Italian or foreign.

 

Pay attention to possible additional fees for specific degree programs. Please, check tuition fees regulations on the Tuition fees webpage.

 

If you hold an Italian qualification, for exemption from payment of tuition fees please, contact the students’ registry office of your program and send them your residence permit for asylum or subsidiary protection.

How and when to apply for enrolment
If you hold all necessary documents for the enrolment

If you obtained the international protection status and you hold all necessary documents to enrol at the University of Turin, contact the International Students Desk by email ([email protected]) reporting in the object of your email the following information: “refugee application: name and surname” and attach your residence permit. You can apply for up to 2 degree programs.

The deadlines to send your application by email are the same as the standard deadlines for non Eu candidates legally residing in Italy who apply via  [email protected]. Deadlines are specified on the Application for international students page.

Verify the required documents for the enrolment at the University of Turin.

Please, check the admission requirements of the degree program of your interest, directly on the webpage of the program, but do not apply and wait for the answer to your application email from International Students Office. Remember that some additional documents may be required.

We remind you that if the degree program of your interest has a fixed quota of places and requires to pass an admission test, you must:

  • carefully read the related call for admission, published on Unito website, for complete information on procedures and deadlines
  • remind that no exemptions are foreseen for the payment of the admission test, even if you hold international protection
  • complete your enrolment within the established deadlines reported on the call for admission, only if you are in a useful position in the resulting ranking list

Upon receipt of your email, the International Students Office will give you further instructions on how to proceed with the following steps of your enrolment.

If you hold only some of the necessary documents or you do not hold any document

If you obtained the international protection status and you hold a foreign high school diploma,  undergraduate or postgraduate degree, but you have only some of the necessary study documents to enrol at the University of Turin or do not have any document, contact the International Students Desk by email ([email protected]) reporting in the object of your email the following information: “refugee application: name and surname) and attach your residence permit. Remember to apply for up to 2 degree programs.

Upon receipt of your email, the International Students Office will send you a form to fill in with detailed information on your prior education background and you will receive an invitation to an interview aiming at verifying your eligibility for the enrolment at the university.

You can send your application by email to the International Students Office between February 1st and May 31st of each year.

Enrolment procedure

International Students Office will provide you with information on enrolment procedures.

Please, be aware that you are considered an international student since you hold a foreign qualification.

Therefore, make sure to stay updated on enrolment procedures for international students published on International degree seeking students webpage.

After the first enrolment

If you need support on the procedures following to enrollment (filling in the study plan, applying for a scholarship, enabling the food service card, registering for exams, looking for an accommodation…) you may contact Mentorship project.

 

Starting from the second year of studies,do not forget to send your residence permit for international protection to your Students Registry Office(“Segreteria Studenti”) before the beginning of each academic year and within the deadlines for the payment of the first tuition fee instalment (usually around September each year), in order to be exempt from paying the tuition fees.

Foundation programme

To get access into Italian universities, international students (holders of foreign qualification) are required to have obtained their high school diploma after at least 12 years of global schooling.

 

If you obtained your foreign high school diploma after less than 12 years of global schooling, you may satisfy the missing requirement by attending a preparatory program to compensate for the missing year of schooling (in case of 11 years).

 

As an holder of international protection or as an asylum seeker, for the academic year 2022-2023 you can enroll for free in the Foundation programme at the University of Turin. Only the virtual duty stamp of 16 euro is due.

 

To complete your enrolment in a degree program or in a single course, your foreign qualification should be previously assessed by International Students Office.
