Before applying

How many intakes do you have per year?

We only have one intake per year. The academic year starts in October.

Does the application process depend on my citizenship?

Yes, it does. We distinguish 2 main categories:

  • Italians, EU citizens, equivalents (i.e. Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Republic of San Marino and Vatican City) and non EU citizens already residing in Italy (with a valid residence permit)
  • Non-EU citizens requiring a Visa.
What residence permits are accepted to be considered a non-EU citizen residing in Italy?

Not all residence permits allow candidates to enroll in university degree programs. You must be in possession of a residence permit valid for university enrolment (as per article 39, clause 5, legislative decree July 25, 1998, no. 286 and subsequent modifications and supplements). The permit must be valid at the moment of enrollment.

I have double citizenship and one is EU. Which one should I consider?

You should apply with your EU citizenship as you do not need to request a study visa to study in Italy.

I have Italian citizenship, but my title was awarded by an international school, by the Vatican State or by another foreign country. Am I considered an international student?

Yes, since your entry title is considered international, you have to follow the procedure for international students.

How do EU citizens, equivalents and non-EU citizens already residing in Italy (with a valid residence permit) apply?
How do non-EU citizens requiring a Visa apply?
What are the application deadlines?

There are different calls for application for different degree programs and categories. Please, check the complete schedule.

What is the difference between degree programs with restricted or without restricted number of places?

All degree programs with a restricted number of places can only accept a limited number of students each year; students are selected with an entrance test.
Undergraduate degree programs without a restricted number of places require students to sit a minimum requirements test, which is not selective.
Postgraduate degree programs without a restricted number of places select students with an admission interview.

What is the call for admission / admission notice and where can I find it?

Degree programs with a restricted number of places publish a call for admission which explains all the test regulations. You can find them published on each degree program’s web page or on the "Albo di Ateneo".

Do I need to know Italian?

You can check whether the program you wish to apply to requires a language certificate on the program page on Apply@UniTo on the "language requirements" section.

Non-EU students applying for an undergraduate degree program taught in Italian language are required to provide an Italian language B2 level certificate.

Can I apply for a single course?

Read the specific instructions published on the page Enrolment on single courses, under "Enrolment on single courses for students holding a foreign qualification".

Please notice that if you come from non-EU countries, you should request a specific visa for enrollment in single courses, not the regular visa for study purposes which allows you to enroll in a full degree program.

Can I apply for “Masters”? (Continuing education programs)

If you are interested in enrolling in a continuing education program (called “master” in Italian) at UniTo, you must follow the detailed registration procedure and for any need you can refer to [email protected], the competent office for all continuing education programs offered by UniTo.

Mind that Italian Masters (continuing education programs) are not a postgraduate degree.
