Technology description

New broad spectrum photo-absorbent material, formed by organic UV filters encapsulated in aluminosilicate particles (zeolites). The material absorbs UV radiation while remaining transparent. The encapsulation provides longer and greater stability, safety and efficacy of the filter, that are sheltered and isolated from the surrounding environment. The material is ideal for reducing the unwanted effects of sun exposure. The invention relates to a broad-spectrum photoabsorber, its preparation procedure, and its applications. The material is an organic-inorganic hybrid of microporous aluminosilicate microcrystals with organic UV filters. The molecules are permanently trapped in the structure. The material merges both advantages of chemical and physical filters. Indeed the encapsulation boosts the stability and efficacy of the UV filter. The encapsulation inhibits the filter photodegradation by sheltering and isolating the molecule from the surrounding matrix. The encapsulation also mitigates filter-skin interactions in cosmetic formulations and filter-ecosystem interactions. The environmental fate is secured by the microcrystal stability into an aqueous environment. The hybrid materials are highly versatile and tuneable. Moreover, their combination can provide a broad photoprotection spectrum, safe both for human health and the environment.
