Dual Career programme

With the Dual Career Programme, the University of Turin aims to support high-level athletes in balancing their commitment to competitive sport with their university careers, and it aims to guarantee the right to study for those who practise competitive sport with a specific project that allow them to participate in a university course, which is also useful for their future employment at the end of their competitive sport career.

Programme benefits

Enrolment in the Dual Career programme and the status as a student athlete grant the following benefits for the University's degree programs and continuing education programs:

  • to arrange with the teacher ad hoc exam dates in case of sport commitments (such as competitions, training sessions and related transfers) coinciding with the exam dates already scheduled in the academic calendar and/or to only take the exams orally and online in case of sport commitments that do not allow the exam to be taken in a full exam session. In order to change the date of the exam or to take the exam online, the student-athlete must directly notify the teacher at least 15 days in advance, providing documentation of actual attendance/convocation at the commitment
  • to arrange directly with the teacher how to compensate for missed compulsory lessons or practical exercises, subject to the availability of laboratories and teachers
  • to benefit from an academic tutor appointed by the department responsible for the study course, as a contact person for problems relating to career, attendance, study and exams, access to teaching materials, information on exam programmes, etc
  • mention of participation in the Dual Career programme in the diploma supplement.

Participants in the programme will also be able to apply for the economic benefits provided, through the relative calls for applications, which will be announced on this page over the coming months.

Admission requirements

Recognition of the status of student athlete in the Dual Career Programme is awarded to students regularly enrolled or enrolled over the legal length, for the a.y. 2024-2025 in degree programs and continuing education programs at the University of Turin who participate in sport at a high competitive level.

 

It is only possible to apply for the Dual Career Programme once you have completed the enrolment procedure for the chosen degree program or continuing education program for the a.y. 2024-2025.

Minimum sport requirements for recognition of student-athlete status

Admission to the Dual Career programme requires participation in national or international level competitions in the current sporting year and the fulfilment of at least one of the following sporting merits in the last three years:

  • participation in senior national competitions of series A, A1, A2 (B in the absence of Series A2) /First and Second absolute top category for sport disciplines with federations recognised by the national Olympic or Paralympic committee of reference of the athlete
  • participation in men's national Football League Pro and Under-19 (i.e., Primavera, Berretti); men's basketball serie B and Under-20 Excellence; men's volleyball serie A3; women's volleyball serie B1
  • placing in the first three positions of a national youth championship for sport disciplines with federations recognised by the National Olympic or Paralympic Committee of reference of the athlete
  • convocation of absolute or youth national team meetings for Olympic and Paralympic disciplines
  • placing in the first three positions of a world championship (i.e. Universiadi), European championship, National (C.N.U.) University Championship
  • being an elite athlete currently affiliated with CUS Torino.
Minimum education requirements for recognition of student-athlete status

For admission to the Dual Career programme for students enrolled in degree programs, the following requirements must be met relating to the year of enrolment foreseen for the a.y. 2024-2025.

 

There is no minimum education requirement for those applying to the Dual Career programme for the first time.

 

1st year of an undergraduate or 5-6-year postgraduate degree course

Requirement: none 

 

1st year of a postgraduate degree course

Requirement: graduation from undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 90/110

 

2nd year of a course of study at any level

Requirement: obtaining between 11th  August 2023 and 10th  August 2024 at least:

  • 10 CFU in the case of full-time enrolment
  • 6 CFU in the case of part-time enrolment

 

Years following the 2nd one in a degree program at any level

Requirement: obtaining between 11th August 2023 and 10th  August 2024 at least:

  • 20 CFU in the case of full-time enrolment
  • 12 CFU in the case of part-time enrolment

 

1st year of 1st level university master

Requirement: graduation from undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 90/110

 

1st year of 2nd level university master

Requirement: graduation from postgraduate degree with a final mark of at least 90/110

 

For students enrolled in continuing education programs, admission to the Dual Career programme is also subject to the approval of the scientific committee of the program itself.

How to join the programme

It is only possible to apply for the Dual Career programme once you have completed the enrolment procedure for the chosen degree program or continuing education program for the a.y. 2024-2025.

How to apply for economic benefits
Inclusion project in collaboration with the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo

As part of the Dual Career programme and the policies of the University of Turin in favour of inclusion and equal opportunities, the University in collaboration with the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo awards 5 scholarships to promote and support high-level Paralympic competitive sport, as well as to ensure economic support for student-athletes in economically disadvantaged circumstances, with residence in Cuneo (municipality and province of Cuneo).

The call for admission will be published by September 2024.

Inclusion project

As part of the Dual Career programme and the policies of the University of Turin in favour of inclusion and equal opportunities, the University awards scholarships to promote and support high-level paralympic competitive sport, as well as to ensure economic support for student-athletes in economically disadvantaged circumstances.

The call for admission will be published by September 2024.

SUISM Medalists project

Students enrolled in the degree course in Exercise and Sport Sciences and in the postgraduate degree courses in Sciences of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activities and in Sport Sciences, belonging to the quota reserved for medal-winning athletes a.y. 2024-2025, will be included in the Dual Career programme and will benefit from the status of student athlete for the a.y. 2024-2025.

These students are also exempt from paying the single all-inclusive fee for enrolling in the study courses for the a.y. 2024-2025.

The call for admission is published on the online notice board and on the websites of the courses involved.

AGON 2024-2025 project, in collaboration with CUS Torino

The University Sports Centre of Turin, the University of Turin and the Politecnico of Turin provide 24 scholarships: 14 scholarships guarantee a room and the exemption from paying the student contribution; another 10 scholarships provide exemption from paying the student contribution for young talents who are eligible.
The winners of the AGON project enrolled at the University of Turin will also be included in the Dual Career programme and will benefit from the status of Student Athlete for the a.y. 2024-2025.
