For the most important resource for the planet: water.

Referent: Prof.ssa Paola Calza

Research activities focus on understanding the main processes and mechanisms involved in the chemistry of water. Particular attention is paid to:

    • the role of sunlight in forcing environmental processes (e.g. processes of photo-induced self-purification of water) and the role that human activities have in altering the environmental balance
    • the development of processes for the removal of pollutants in aqueous compartments (industrial or civil waste), including: advanced oxidative processes (eg. heterogeneous photocatalysis processes on semiconductors) and use of low-cost materials (catalysts, membranes, materials ceramic)
    • the study of organic amendments and bioremediation with sugary nutrients of waters contaminated by Cr (VI)
    • the determination of pollutants in surface and marine waters or industrial and civil wastewater.
