The technological centre AZTI, the artificial intelligence company AiTalentum, the food cooperative AN Group and the Universities of Turin and Helsinki, in an EIT Food consortium, are joining forces to develop ASSIST- a Smarter Shopping List: an interactive web platform.

ASSIST is aimed to improving family eating habits by addressing their purchase behaviour, opinions, preferences, and attitudes, and providing them an expert and customised healthier nutrition guidance. The platform is available online and is integrated with an App for Android and IOS since September 2020.

After free signing-up and downloading the app, families actively access to useful information and recommendations through articles written by experts in a friendly register, and participate in individual surveys which gather their perspectives on food-related topics. Additionally, users interact with other mothers and fathers in thematic forums, as well as they learn in-depth about their grocery shopping behaviour by receiving a customised analysis of their supermarket tickets. In the words of Elena Santa Cruz, head of the project at AZTI New Foods department, "ASSIST applies machine learning intelligence and social research methodologies to extract in-depth knowledge of consumers, specifically families with children, and customise the recommended eating habits for each profile, making the actions taken towards a healthier lifestyle more efficient and successful".
