European Research Council (ERC) intends to encourage high quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence. It provides support to European leadership in world-class research.

Any individual researcher of any nationality with a promising or excellent track record and a brilliant research idea is eligible to apply. Scientific excellence is the sole selection criterion.

Projects in all fields of research are eligible for funding.
