Latin America Research Projects

  • The Pogolotti

    ​This project aims at spreading information and knowledge on the Pogolotti family: the forefather Dino Pogolotti, the son Marcelo (futurist painter and writer), the granddaughter Graciela (writer and woman of culture, acknowledged as one of the 100 most influential people for Cuban culture), and the other brothers of Dino.

    Activities foreseen: realization of a historical repository, scholarships and organization of stages, translation in Italian of two biographical books, organization of art exhibits and seminars, and launch of the partnership between the municipality of Giaveno and the Municipio Barrio Pogolotti (city of Havana).

  • Cuba, Tierra de biodiversidad

    An environmental education project in Italian schools focused on Cuban natural parks and reserves. Moreover, the project includes the realization of a set of tourist guide books on the main parks and reserves published by Mundo Latino and EPICS (a publisher located in Turin).

    Activities foreseen: support to the Cuban institutions for the elaboration of the educational plan, creation of a database collecting available data, travels to cooperate to an Italy-Cuba joint plan of staff training, cooperation for the elaboration of the labs on environmental and rural education, organization of seminars held by Cuban staff in the schools, organization of exchange journeys dedicated to the classrooms involved in the projects, elaboration of a monitoring plan.

  • Il caffè per la vita
    CUALC supported the Guatemalan Association “Verdad y Vida” (founded by 20 women Maya Pop’omchi’ from San Lucas Chiacal) in the development of a fund application to the Lavazza Foundation for a project on socially and economically sustainable coffee production.
  • Progetto Diritti Umani e Globalizzazione (HR&G)
    Born from an initial symbolic action through which the former Faculty of Economics dean, Sergio Bertolani, established itself as Luogo della memoria dei desaparecidos dell’America Latina (Motion n. 453 of the Faculty Council, 12-2006). Symbolic Day: held each year on December 10th, when an International Seminar is organized  in conjunction with the international day of Human Rights. Goals: to keep a permanent focus on the issue, with the participation of scholars and witnesses, by means of seminars, lectures, conventions, round tables, documentary shows. Held events.
  • Gymnasium of Human Rights. Corsi di legittima difesa, democrazia di genere ed educazione relazionale Project.
    he goal of this project is to introduce at the University of Turin a cultural activity - already experimented for a few years in the city's Courthouse and elsewhere in Italy – which aims at sensitizing professors, students, and staff of the Athenaeum with regard to the fundamental issues of gender violence in every context and environment (family, workplace, society), providing basic notions on gender violence, on its various aspects (physical, psychological,, economic, sexual) and on its practices, promoting the acquisition of of instruments which allow the detection of warning signs (physical, emotional, behavioral), the articulation of the national and and communal normative frameworks which regulate the area, promoting the identification of the paths to follow for the prevention, support and care of the victims, and practically studying on the field a series of of self-defense techniques focused on the goal on escaping violence or at least limiting its damages. more practical.   • Distance Learning Project (FAD - Elearning) in junction with the University of La Habana.
    Following a check-up period intended to access funding,  there is now in place a contact with a network of Italian entrepreneurs operating in Cuba, which is now checking the possibility of setting up a project with their collaboration. The possibility of operating in  Cuba  jointly with the Informatics University (U.S.I.), in addition to some of the Faculties of the University of  La Habana, is also taken into account.
  • Collaborative projects in the area of land and environment protection are in the process of being developed together with the Paraguay Mother Land Association.
  • Administrative Law in CubaOur Socia Gabriella Crepaldi is working on a research Project in the field of Administrative Law in Cuba. The legal systems of the Caribbean region - and Cuba in particular - are of particular comparative interest because the Caribe is the hinge area of the dialectic between the Roman- Germanic legal systems and those of common law, between Latin America and Europe.
  • Project of the Association SUR - Società Umane Resistenti
    Our Committee promotes and supports the Project of the Association SUR - Società Umane Resistenti, which aims to implement initiatives that constitute a permanent bridge interchange between our socio-cultural youth, and that of the barrio de Asuncion in Santiago de Cuba. The objective is to develop an interchange of experiences between the elderly and the young people of the barrio and to work to build a "barn memory" and a laboratory of ideas. The project connects the experience carried out in Santiago de Cuba from International Help Onlus of Turin with some local partners (info: [email protected]).
  • Project Parada PogolottiOur Committee promotes and supports the Project Parada Pogolotti, an Observatory about barrio Pogolotti in La Habana, a working class district with a strong Afro-Caribbean identity founded by entrepreneur Dino Pogolotti Piedmont in 1912 (info: Irene Pittatore, [email protected]).
