Collegio Aperto “Financial education: A vaccine against economic vulnerability?”

CeRP and Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto, on the occasion of the Italian Financial Education Month, are organising an online event on 28th October 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

 

Annamaria Lusardi (George Washington University School of Business; Director of Italy’s Financial Education Committee) will talk about "Financial education: A vaccine against economic vulnerability?".

 

Financial Literacy is a key skill for financial wellbeing, helping people in taking crucial life decisions, such as keep studying or start working, save or spend, rent or buy a house, keep working or retire. These choices can have long-lasting consequences, hard to grasp without basic financial skills. Financial education is thus a vaccine against economic vulnerability, in particular for low-income groups.
However, evidence shows that in Italy, like in many other countries, financial illiteracy is widespread, and it is particularly so among the most fragile groups, such as women and the elderly. Annamaria Lusardi will comment on this, starting from the results of a 2020 survey by the Italian Committee for Financial Education that focuses on Italian households’ financial knowledge.
