Students with international protection
You are considered a refugee or a holder of subsidiary protection if you obtained a positive response on your status and the related residence permit by the competent authorities.
If you hold international protection and you have an Italian qualification (high school diploma or a university degree) and you wish to enrol in university check Enrolment procedure webpage and, for further information, please contact the students’ registry office competent for the degree program/single courses of your interest.
If you have been recognized the international protection (asylum or subsidiary protection) and you hold a foreign qualification you can:
- complete the enrolment in a degree program if you meet both of the following requirements:
- you have been granted the international protection/subsidiary protection status following the interview with the competent board (Commissione Territoriale) and you hold a valid residence permit for international protection
- you hold a study qualification that allows you to enrol at an Italian university
- enrol in single courses for the a.y. 2025-2026 for a maximum of 30 credits per year.
Verify the required documents for the enrolment at the University of Turin.
- If you hold all necessary documents for the enrolment: contact the International Students office by email ([email protected]) reporting in the object of your email the following information: “refugee application: name and surname” and attach your residence permit. You can apply for up to 2 degree programs
- If you hold only some of the necessary documents or you do not hold any document: if you hold a qualification (foreign high school diploma or university degree), but you have only some of the necessary study documents to enrol at the University of Turin or do not have any document, ask for the European Qualification Passport for Refugees (EQPR) to the Council of Europe. Once obtained, contact the International Students Desk by email ([email protected]) reporting in the object of your email the following information: “refugee application: name and surname) and attach your residence permit. Remember to apply for up to 2 degree program.
You will receive a feedback to your online application to the same e-mail address you used to register on the platform.
Check the admission requirements of the degree program of your interest, directly on the webpage of the program, but do not apply and wait for the answer to your application email from International Students Office. Remember that some additional documents may be required.
Information on the application procedures for Medicine and Surgery, Medicina e Chirurgia, Medicina Veterinaria, Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria for the a.y. 2026-2027 will be published as soon as available.
If the degree program of your interest (ig. Medicine and Surgery) has a fixed quota of places and requires to pass an admission test, you must:
- carefully read the related call for admission, published on UniTo website, for complete information on procedures and deadlines
- remind that no exemptions are foreseen for the payment of the admission test, even if you hold international protection
- complete your enrolment within the established deadlines reported on the call for admission, only if you are in a useful position in the resulting ranking list.
If your study documents or your EQPR have been deemed eligible and you have been admitted, you’ll receive information on the enrolment procedure by the International Students Office.
If you hold international protection, independently from your study qualification you can ask for the exemption to enrol in a degree program (undergraduate, 5-6 year postgraduate degree, postgraduate degree).
You must pay only 16 euro for the duty stamp.
Additional tuition fees which may be requested to enrol in some specific programs are due. For detailed information check the tuition fees regulation referred to the academic year of your enrolment on the Tuition fees webpage.
If you hold an Italian qualification you must request the exemption to the Students Registry Office competent for your degree program by submitting your residence permit for international protection.

Do not forget to send your residence permit for international protection to your students registry office before the beginning of each academic year and within the deadlines for the payment of the first tuition fee instalment (usually around September each year) in the following years, in order to be exempt from paying the tuition fees.
