Support for students with SLD in taking exams

What it is

For students with SLD, it is possible to adapt study and assessment methods in accordance with Law 170/2010 and the Guidelines attached to Ministerial Decree no. 5669/2011, while keeping learning objectives unchanged.

In the university context, for all assessment activities (exams, mid-term tests, etc.), it is possible to request, for example:

  • conversion of written exams into oral exams
  • 30% additional time for written exams
  • assessment focused on content rather than form
  • use of a computer for writing (to be agreed with the instructor)
  • use of a non-scientific calculator
  • reading support
  • concept maps / outlines / formula sheets (these compensatory tools must be shared well in advance with instructors, who must approve their content and structure)

To benefit from these support measures, you must have already submitted your certification to the Student Inclusion Services Section.

How to request it (only if you completed your first enrollment up to academic year 2022–2023)

At the beginning of each course, you can start a dialogue with the teaching staff to explain your learning needs for classes and in preparation for the exam.

To take exams with the support of compensatory tools and/or dispensatory measures, about 15 working days before the exam date you must:

  • send an email to the instructor and include (in the same email) [email protected] in copy (Cc)
  • attach the individualized treatment request form for the exam, completed by you. It is not necessary to attach your SLD certification
  • the instructor will review your request, taking into account your difficulties as well as the specific learning objectives of the course
If you completed your first enrollment at UniTo from academic year 2023–2024 onwards

You must also be in possession of the “A TU PER TU” document, following the procedure outlined on the page: A tu per tu: welcome and support for the attendance and exams for freshers with SLD

Requests for aids and/or additional time for CFU recovery during the open semester for students with SLD

Regarding support measures for CFU recovery assessments during the open semester for the degree programs in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, and Veterinary Medicine, as a student with SLD (please check your certification), you may request:

  • additional time (30% extra) to complete the test
  • a non-scientific calculator
  • a reader, i.e. a person whose role is to read the test questions aloud

The use of tools such as dictionaries and/or vocabularies, formula sheets, the periodic table of elements, concept maps, personal computers, tablets, smartphones, and similar devices is not permitted.

To request these measures, you must complete the questionnaire “Aids and/or additional time – CFU recovery open semester 2025/2026 – SLD”. The link to the questionnaire and the relevant timelines/deadlines will be published on this page, which we recommend checking regularly.

As the Student Inclusion Services Section, we will carry out the necessary checks; if needed, we may request additional documents or information by email to your institutional email address (which we recommend checking frequently).

In parallel, you must still complete the standard registration for the exam session by following the established procedures.
