Student insurance

Students are covered by the insurance policy to guarantee the risk of accidents (for damage suffered) and by the insurance policy to guarantee civil liability (for damage caused to other people or things).

For the purposes of the effectiveness of the guarantees provided by the policies, exclusive reference is made to the regulatory content of the contracts deposited at the University of Turin.

Turin and carried out at its own premises and/or at third-party premises or in identified locations, in Italy and/or abroad, resulting in death, permanent disability, or other consequences, guarantees, and/or conditions envisaged.

1. The injured person must go to the nearest emergency room or to their general practitioner to determine the existence and severity of the injury, explaining the causes and circumstances of the accident to the medical staff. The examining doctor (emergency room or general practitioner) will issue an initial medical certificate of injury with a diagnosis and prognosis.
2. The injured individual must promptly report the injury to the Contractual Applications Section of the University Human Resources Department, via email at [email protected], forwarding the medical certificate and any other documentation deemed useful. Even if the prognosis is zero days, the injured individual is required to promptly notify [email protected].
3. In order to comply with legal obligations, the Contractual Applications Section of the Personnel Department electronically transmits a copy of the medical certificate to INAIL and transmits the documentation relating to the accident to the University Insurance System Area of the General Affairs and Cultural Heritage Directorate.
4. The University Insurance System Area forwards the insurance claim to the accident insurance company.
5. The injured party will receive notification from the University's insurance broker that the insurance claim has been opened.
6. The injured person must send to the University Insurance System Area - via the email address [email protected] - all supplementary medical documentation and any invoices/fees/receipts relating to medical expenses incurred and resulting from the accident, for the purposes of reimbursement.
7. The injured person must send the medical certificate confirming the conclusion of the accident to the University Insurance System Area - via the email address [email protected] - where available, which will be sent to the University Insurance Company, to finalize the accident
insurance practice.

Finally, the injured party may be summoned for a medical-legal examination, depending on the circumstances of the accident.

The guarantee is also provided for the risk in progress, i.e. for accidents that may occur during:

  • the journey from the place of residence/domicile/work and from the place of study/work (e.g. Departments/Libraries/Classrooms/Different places etc.) to another place where institutional activities are carried out (e.g. Companies, Public/Private Bodies, Construction Sites etc.) and vice versa
  • from one place where institutional activities are carried out to another place where institutional activities are carried out and vice versa (in the case of activities in multiple locations)
  • from one place of study to another place of study and vice versa provided that such injuries occur during the time strictly necessary to complete the journey by ordinary means and by means of transport (private or public), before or after the start and end times of the activities. When studying, teaching, or researching abroad, check with the relevant
authorities about the host country's socio-health and political situation.
Also check:

  • in the destination country (intra-EU or non-EU), the expected healthcare arrangements
  • at the local health authority (ASL), the need for preventive healthcare.

The accident insurance policy provides a guarantee for the reimbursement of medical expenses arising exclusively from an accident, but it is not a health insurance policy because the guarantees relating to the reimbursement of medical expenses are intended to be provided only in relation to the occurrence of an accident that you suffer during the performance of tasks, duties, activities and responsibilities, institutionally foreseen, permitted or delegated, even collateral ones, without exceptions or exclusions and in general everything that does not conflict with the provisions of your own legal system.

Therefore, where study, teaching, or research activities are carried out abroad, students are advised to evaluate the aspects relating to healthcare and the possible activation, on a personal basis and at their own expense, of a health insurance policy that meets their specific needs.

The insurance policy also includes coverage for injuries sustained while using the service vehicle for official purposes.
