FAQ - Accident insurance

Definition

An accident is a hypothesis of objectively verifiable bodily injury resulting from a fortuitous, violent, and external cause that results in permanent disability or death.

Bodily injuries are covered by accident insurance policies where they result in permanent disability and/or death.

Permanent disability is the total, definitive and irreparable loss of an individual's ability to perform any work following an accident.

When the accident occurs, once the situation has stabilized, a medical examination is carried out by the forensic doctor, in which the so-called permanent disability score and the consequent compensation are established.

A death event means death, including the declared state of"irreversible coma", resulting from an accident.

An insurance claim is the occurrence of the damaging event for which the insurance guarantee is provided.

Scope of operation

An accident insurance claim occurs in Italy or abroad, during the performance of tasks, duties, activities and responsibilities, institutionally foreseen, permitted or delegated, even collateral ones, with no exceptions or exclusions and in general everything that is not in conflict with what is envisaged by the relevant legal system.

An event that does not fall within the duties, tasks, activities, and responsibilities, whether institutionally foreseen, permitted, or delegated, including collateral ones, cannot be considered an accident. To qualify an event as an accident, the cause of the event must be traced back to the performance of duties, tasks, activities, and responsibilities, whether institutionally foreseen, permitted, or delegated, including collateral ones, with no exceptions or exclusions, and in general, anything that does not conflict with the provisions of the relevant legal system.

It is necessary to check the socio-political situation of the host country with the relevant agencies and to verify with the local health authority whether or not it is necessary to adhere to health prophylaxis, as well as to verify the healthcare system foreseen in the destination country (intra-EU or non-EU).

The accident insurance policy covers the insured party even during the Erasmus period.

The accident insurance policy provides reimbursement for medical expenses arising exclusively from accidents.

The accident insurance policy is not a health insurance policy because the guarantees relating to the reimbursement of medical expenses are intended to be provided only in relation to the injuries that the insured parties suffer during the performance of activities, tasks, duties, activities and responsibilities, institutionally foreseen, permitted or delegated, even
collateral ones, with no exceptions or exclusions and in general everything that does not conflict with the provisions of the relevant legal system.

The cost of initiating insurance coverage for accidents and civil liability of general interest to the University will be borne by the University.

Accident and civil liability insurance coverage is effective upon proof of continued employment with the University, which is consistent with the insured person's status, in accordance with the relevant teaching regulations.
