As part of the sixth edition of the Nazra Palestine Short Film Festival, the event Cinema and Memory: Filmmaking Practices Against Colonial Oblivion will take place on 15th October 2025 at the Luigi Einaudi Campus of the University of Turin ( Lungo Dora Siena 100, Torino).

This event is part of a serie dedicated to Palestinian film archives as forms of cultural resistance.

Speakers:

  • Khadijah Habashneh: the first Palestinian filmmaker, archivist of the Palestine Film Unit / Palestinian Cinema Institute, and feminist activist for women’s rights under occupation
  • Nadia Yaqub: professor of Arabic Language and Culture at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Editor, among others, of Gaza on Screen (2023) and author of Palestinian Cinema in the Days of Revolution (2018)
  • Noor Abed: Palestinian artist working at the intersection of film and performance. Her works reactivate visual and sound archival materials in the form of rituals, conceived as acts of creative resistance against colonial oblivion
  • Kareem Estefan: associate professor of Film and Screen Studies at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on Arab audiovisual practices, documentary filmmaking, and cinema of the Global South.

The event is organized in collaboration with the UNITA project Decolonizing Women’s History: Collecting Archives and Oral Stories, the project Fuori Campo. Voices and Gazes from the Southern Shore of the Mediterranean, and with the patronage of the Women’s Archive of Piedmont.
