Mentorship project

What it is

Mentorship aims:

  • to raise awareness within the academic community on issues such as social inclusion and university dropout rates among students who encounter difficulties and face obstacles within Italian society, promoting and improving academic integration and social cohesion
  • to promote peer support initiatives or consolidate existing ones.

Thanks to a peer-to-peer approach, students will be guided in integrating into the academic and social life of the city, receiving help and guidance in the following four areas.

The project is promoted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI) and draws on a network of associations, institutions, and local organizations that have been involved for many years in welcoming and supporting migrants and refugees.

Who it is for

Mentorship is a project run by the University of Turin aimed at international students enrolled at UniTo, with a particular focus on those who have migrated and/or are beneficiaries of international protection

What it offers

If you encounter difficulties in studying or actively participating in classes, using websites and platforms for distance learning, or in your relationship with individual teachers, you can contact Mentorship for:

  • support in registering for exams
  • help in booking appointments with professors
  • find books to help you prepare for exams
  • access courses and digital materials, language tandems, etc.

If you encounter difficulties in finding tools or identifying services that can help you exercise your fundamental rights, you can contact Mentorship for:

  • help you find accommodation
  • activate your canteen card
  • apply for a scholarship
  • check the documentation required to renew your residence permit
  • complete the enrollment process, etc.

If you are having difficulty finding resources that can help you live better in the city and within the academic community, Mentorship promotes social activities and participation, organizing social events and involving those who want to take up sports or cultural activities, both inside and outside the University.

If you find it difficult to make your voice heard, or if you want to get to know others and make yourself better known, Mentorship helps you amplify your voice on dedicated social media, where you will find information related to local initiatives or tutorials to solve problems related to academic life. The project plans to support various initiatives, including the creation of a radio channel or university newspaper, bringing together student associations, conferences, film forums, and debates that can raise awareness of the reality of those who migrate for study reasons and intend to achieve their goals.
