Initiatives and projects for students with SLD
Intensive training course on university study methods
The Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Student Inclusion Services Section, offers first-year students with SLD the opportunity to take part in an intensive training course on study methods, with the aim of providing metacognitive tools to better address university study.
The course, which has received positive feedback over the years, represents an excellent opportunity both to improve one’s study skills and to socialize with other students with SLD.
The program consists of 30 hours of instruction, largely dedicated to experiential and applied activities. It usually takes place during the second semester of each academic year; information on the start of the course and how to apply is communicated by email to all first-year students with SLD by the Student Inclusion Services Section.
Research project on the development of new technologies for people with disabilities and SLD
A research project aimed at identifying, using, disseminating, and developing new technologies to promote the active participation of young people with disabilities and SLD in university studies, in line with the principles of universal accessibility, personalized teaching, and inclusion, coordinated by Prof. Marisa Pavone and Prof. Anna Capietto (Disability and SLD representative for the Department of Mathematics).
Within the framework of the Agreement between the University of Turin and I.Ri.Fo.R./UICI (Institute for Research, Rehabilitation and Training / Italian Union of the Blind), the University has recently acquired hardware and software equipment to facilitate access to texts (including those containing formulas and tables) for visually impaired students. Available equipment includes a relief printer capable of printing graphics/tables and Braille + black print, a Braille embosser heater, and two Braille displays. A collaboration is also active with a specialized center at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany).
