Teaching Economics in the Digital Era
Overview
The Teaching Economics in the Digital Era Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) has been developed within the Connect-UNITA framework and is organised by the University of Turin, with the involvement of the Department of Economics and Statistics “Cognetti de Martiis”, the Teaching and Learning Center, and the UNITA staff, in collaboration with several European partner universities.
The programme aims to strengthen university teachers’ competencies in the effective use of Artificial Intelligence tools for teaching Economics. It responds to the growing need to innovate pedagogical practices in higher education by integrating AI-based applications, digital resources, and data-driven methodologies into economics courses.
Beyond enhancing digital teaching skills, the programme promotes the design and development of international educational initiatives, fostering collaboration among partner universities and supporting the creation of transnational and transdisciplinary learning experiences.
Objectives and programme description
The programme focuses on the integration of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies into the teaching of Economics. It provides participants with practical competencies in the use of AI tools for instructional design, data analysis, and the development of innovative learning environments.
Through a combination of online training sessions and collaborative project work, participants will:
- acquire practical expertise in AI-enhanced teaching
- develop skills in instructional design for international and digital learning environments
- design and implement innovative educational formats aligned with the needs of the digital era
- contribute to the development of international initiatives such as COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) and other collaborative programmes.
The programme combines theoretical input with hands-on activities and collaborative project development in an international academic environment.
Interdisciplinary and inter-alliance dimension
The programme fosters structured collaboration among European partner universities and promotes transnational and transdisciplinary learning experiences.
It brings together participants from different institutional and national contexts, encouraging exchange of practices, co-creation of educational projects, and the development of international teaching initiatives.
Teaching methods
The programme combines online training sessions, collaborative project work, and in-person workshops and practical activities.
The virtual component includes live sessions on topics such as Artificial Intelligence in higher education, AI tools for data analytics, instructional design, and economic modelling.
The on-site component focuses on practical sessions on AI for research and teaching in Economics, collaborative workshops, co-creation sessions for COIL and BIP initiatives, and the presentation of project proposals.
